Parking in the Center -- set at 25 euros per hour. For officials

The first prime minister of independent Latvia, quoted by Neatkarīgā, is quite critical of the priorities of the Riga City Council — bike lanes, mobility points, etc.

"According to I. Godmanis, these projects are good from a 'green' perspective, quickly implementable, and everything is being done, but the question is whether anyone has researched how many people ride bicycles, what the age structure is, in what weather conditions one can ride a bicycle, and whether this will reduce the desire of people to get in their cars and still go to the center. The former prime minister is concerned that this has not been done. Additionally, money has been invested in increasing the mobility of train stations. But when I. Godmanis saw stations like Zemitani, which require crossing several bridges to reach, he believes that 'there is no sense in making any mobility there.' The same goes for the Dauderi station, which is generally difficult to access. In his opinion, only the Ziemelblazma station in Vecmilgravis would be 'justified.'

In Riga, it is also not working out with the insulation of buildings, in his opinion, simply because if many elderly people live in apartment buildings, they quickly calculate that they will not live long enough to pay less, so decisions cannot be made at the general meetings of the residents. Instead, the buildings of state and municipal institutions are being insulated, sometimes even multiple times."

"According to the former prime minister, it would be good if, for example, residents of Marupe could leave their cars at the Tiraine station, and those entering from other sides -- in Imanta, Janavarti, etc. To avoid just having a 'carrot,' parking lots should be gradually built where one has to pay 25 euros per hour, making it expensive to keep a car in the center. And also, not allowing employees of state institutions to keep cars just because they work there, as employees of private companies also work, so they should take the train. Only those who deliver goods and live there go to the center, and perhaps this will resolve complaints."
