On Monday, traveler Karlis Bardelis passed away, his relatives reported on social media Facebook, LETA writes.
According to the archive of the LETA agency, Bardelis began his adventures in 2013 under the motto Bored of Borders, when he rollerbladed across Europe — from Nordkapp in the north of the continent to its southernmost point in Gibraltar. Since then, he participated in several expeditions before starting to plan a round-the-world trip.
Bardelis is a six-time Guinness World Record holder who traveled around the world for nine years without a motor, sails, or other auxiliary means.
In April of last year, he completed his round-the-world journey by rowing boat and bicycle, reaching the starting and finishing point in Lüderitz, Namibia. In total, Bardelis spent 2,898 days on the road — seven years and 11 months. He rowed 46,326 kilometers and cycled 11,972 kilometers.
During this journey, Bardelis set six Guinness records, three of which cannot be broken yet. Together with his friend Gints Barkoskis, they became the first team to row across the South Atlantic. Bardelis also became the first person to row across the Pacific Ocean from South America to Asia and the Indian Ocean from Asia to Africa.
