On Tuesday morning, some roads were already covered with ice

On Tuesday morning, ice significantly complicated traffic on the main and regional roads of the country, reported the LETA agency from the LLC "Latvian State Roads."

To improve traffic conditions, 56 units of winter service equipment were deployed for road maintenance.

Difficult traffic conditions were observed on the section of Tallinn Highway from Riga to Saulkrasti, on Vidzeme Highway from Riga to Ligatne and from Vireši to Veclīcene, on Valmiera Highway from Murjani to Lielstraupe and from Stalbe to Valki, on the Riga bypass road (Salaspils-Babīte), on Daugavpils Highway from Salaspils to Jaunelgava, as well as on Bauska Highway.

Traffic was also complicated on the section of Jelgava Highway from Riga to Dalbe, on Liepaja Highway from Riga to Kaģi and from the Apšupe intersection to Liepaja, on Ventspils Highway and on the road Liepaja–Lithuania border (Rukava).

On regional roads, traffic was difficult in the vicinity of Ventspils, Talsi, Kuldiga, Tukums, Saldus, Dobele, Bauska, Riga, Ogre, Limbaži, Valmiera, Gulbene, Balvi, Alūksne, Valki, and Krāslava.

"Latvian State Roads" reminds that from December 1 to March 1, cars and buses with a total weight of up to 3.5 tons must be equipped with winter tires specifically designed for use in snow or ice conditions and marked with the symbol of a "mountain and snowflake."

Residents are encouraged to inform "Latvian State Roads" about difficult traffic conditions and other observations related to road traffic and road conditions by calling the 24-hour free information phone 80005555, as well as through the company's accounts on social media X and Facebook.
