In the first ten months of this year, 8,883 newborns were registered in Latvia, which is 10.9%, or 1,092 fewer than in the same period of 2024, according to preliminary data from the Central Statistical Bureau.
During this period, 4,643 boys were born, which is 209 (-4.3%) fewer than in the same period of 2024, and 4,240 girls, which is 883 (-17.2%) fewer.
In September, 1,046 newborns were registered, which is 92 (-8.1%) fewer than in the same month of 2024, including 560 boys and 486 girls.
In the first nine months of this year, 19,186 deaths were registered in Latvia, which is 591 (-3%) fewer than in the same period of 2024 (19,777 deaths).
Thus, in this year, for the first nine months, the number of deaths exceeded the number of births by 10,303, whereas in the same period last year, this difference was 9,802.
In the first nine months of 2025, 8,833 marriages were registered in Latvia, which is 625 more (+7.6%) compared to the same period of 2024.
As of October 1 of this year, according to preliminary data, the population of Latvia was 1.828 million people.
