In the last two days, the State Border Guard has prevented 107 attempts of illegal crossing of the Latvian-Belarusian border, the LETA agency was informed by the border guard.
On Wednesday, 34 people attempted to illegally cross the border, and on Thursday - 73.
A total of 11,329 attempts of illegal border crossing have been prevented this year, and for humanitarian reasons, 30 migrants have been accepted in Latvia.
Last year, 5,388 attempts of illegal border crossing were prevented, and 26 individuals were allowed to stay in Latvia for humanitarian reasons.
As reported, the government has decided to extend the enhanced border security regime on the border with Belarus until December 31 of this year.
The enhanced regime is in effect in Ludza and the Ludza municipality, Kraslava and the municipalities of the region, in Augšdaugava municipality, Daugavpils, and the Kaunata parish of the Rezekne municipality.
