Святой Феодот

On June 20, 2026, Saint Theodotus of Ancyra is remembered. This day is popularly known as Fedot the Harvestman, because the first fruits began to be gathered in the garden. It is also called Manure Day — it was customary to clean stables, cow sheds, sheepfolds, and yards.

What is remembered in the Church on June 20, 2026

Theodotus lived in the second half of the 3rd century in Ancyra and was a contemporary of the most terrible persecutor of Christianity in history — Emperor Diocletian. Theodotus ran an inn, but he was such a kind and spiritual person, doing so many good deeds that he earned from the Lord the ability to heal by the laying on of hands. During the period of persecution, he sheltered fellow Christians in his inn, visited prisons to assist the prisoners, and secretly buried those tortured by executioners.

Eventually, he himself was captured, tortured severely, and then beheaded. Theodotus had a premonition of his martyr's death and therefore indicated the place where he wished to be buried. Later, a church was built on this site.
