Number 15871, I will complain! The State Police introduces digital codes instead of surnames on the uniform

The State Police of Latvia is gradually transitioning to a new employee identification system - now a unique five-digit digital code will be indicated on the uniform instead of the surname, reports rus.lsm.lv.

The process of implementing the new format is taking place gradually, as new uniforms are being procured, and it will take some time. In the future, each police officer will wear a digital identifier on their chest instead of the usual name tag with initials and surname.

“This initiative was introduced to protect the official of the State Police and their personal data at public events. This is especially important in case of negative reactions from individuals during public events, or, for example, as a result of special events in the country that occurred during COVID.

For safety reasons, it is important to protect the officer from someone finding their social media page and potentially recording statements that insult their honor and dignity. Or they might find their relatives, spread false information, or write unpleasant comments. To prevent this, a digital combination was chosen,” explained State Police representative Ilze Jurevica.
