Today in Riga, a protest rally "Migration is Human Rights" will take place near the Town Hall, reported the LETA agency, citing the event's organizer, artist Metra Saberova.
According to the LETA agency, a statement was submitted to the municipality by a private individual in accordance with the law. The rally will take place from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM at the Town Hall Square.
Its goal is to express concern that politicians are using migrants as a tool for political manipulation and a source of fear-mongering.
It is planned that 100 people will participate in the event.
As noted by Saberova, Riga's Vice Mayor Edvards Ratnieks announced raids against migrants, emphasizing that this will not be a one-day action, but regular and systematic actions, which means institutional restrictions on freedom.
The head of the committee on security, order, and anti-corruption prevention, Girts Lapins, noted that migration has become a problem for society as a whole, so the party will work on legislative changes, propose to introduce quotas for migrant entry, and will fight for the possibility of limiting legal migration.
According to the organizers of the protest, politicians are actively inciting hatred and sowing panic in society to attract new voters by creating an enemy image in the form of migrants and other minorities, which leads to an increase in xenophobia and Islamophobia in society.
