From October 15, Wednesday, and until spring, driving at speeds above 90 kilometers per hour (km/h) will be prohibited throughout Latvia, except for the section of the Sigulda highway, where under very good conditions, speeds of up to 100 km/h will be allowed, reports Latvijas valsts ceļi (Latvian State Roads), according to LETA.
On the section of the Vidzeme highway from Riga to Sigulda, where adaptive traffic management with variable road signs is in effect, the maximum speed will be 100 km/h during the winter period, but only under very good conditions. However, if weather and road conditions worsen, the permitted speed will be reduced to 90, 80, or 70 km/h.
It should be noted that during the winter period, weather and road conditions can change several times a day, sometimes abruptly, so drivers are reminded to carefully monitor the instructions of the variable road signs and comply with them.
Meanwhile, construction work continues on 32 sections of state roads. Drivers are urged not to violate the traffic restrictions set at construction sites to avoid endangering themselves, other road users, and construction workers.
Information about all current construction projects and traffic restrictions on the network of state roads is available on the LVC website in the road work map.
