"The Ukrainian war has become background noise," said zemessargs, polar researcher, climber, and professor Juris Alberts Ulmanis in Latvijas Avīze.
"This is being talked about less and less in the media. A large part of the political 'heavyweights' no longer have the desire to deal with the Ukrainian issue," said Ulmanis.
Mr. Ulmanis has been carrying out a project to evacuate soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the battlefield since the summer of this year. "We are transporting the wounded from stabilization points near the front to large hospitals in the city of Dnipro using two ambulances provided by the Ganta Foundation. The drivers are volunteers from Latvia, mainly zemessargs, who are temporarily under the command of the military mobile hospital of the Ukrainian army while on duty."
Thus, driver Roberts evacuated 200 wounded from the combat zone. "It is planned that we will be able to carry out this project until the end of the year, and if we manage to raise enough money, also in 2026."
According to the volunteer's estimate, 80% of the wounded were affected by drones. "Gunshot wounds account for less than a tenth, and about the same number were injured by mortars."
