On Wednesday, the state defense exercises "Namejs 2025," organized by the National Armed Forces (NAF), will conclude, with approximately 12,000 Latvian and allied soldiers and national guards participating, the NAF reported to the LETA agency.
The exercises, which began on September 2, brought together military personnel and national guards from all branches of the National Armed Forces (NAF), including soldiers from the state defense service, reservists, as well as military personnel from allied armed forces.
During the exercises, interaction with the Crisis Management Center and the Civil Defense Operational Center was practiced, including with the State Chancellery, sectoral ministries and their subordinate institutions, state security services, several municipalities, and entrepreneurs, providing necessary support for state defense and strengthening Latvia's comprehensive defense system.
The exercises were conducted in cooperation with the NATO multinational division headquarters "North." Allied soldiers from the United States, Estonia, and Lithuania, the NATO multinational brigade headquarters in Latvia, NATO force integration units in Latvia, and the Canadian Armed Forces command in Latvia participated in them.
The NAF closely collaborated with the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) to ensure timely monitoring of the situation, implement deterrence measures, and enhance overall response capability in the Baltic region. This cooperation confirms the unity of JEF participating countries and their readiness for operational actions in the event of a threat, as well as promotes mutual compatibility and the improvement of operational procedures, noted the NAF.
The goal of the comprehensive state defense system is to facilitate the establishment of a planning, coordination, and partnership system for the execution of vital state functions among state institutions, as well as the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and the population. A practical task of this system is to define the specific responsibilities and roles of each state institution in ensuring the country's defense, emphasized the NAF.
The "Namejs" exercises have been pre-planned and have been taking place throughout Latvia since 2014.
