At 50, the director found himself at a crossroads.
Konstantin Bogomolov made a sudden statement that sparked heated discussions online. Why has the director found himself in the spotlight this time?
In January, it became known that Ksenia Sobchak's husband was appointed acting rector of the Shchukin School. However, Konstantin Yurievich was not allowed to savor his success. Many criticized the director, doubting his effectiveness in the new position. Ultimately, Bogomolov withdrew from the role.
Now, just as the chatter about the director's failure began to subside, he provided a new reason for conversation. In his personal Telegram channel, Sobchak's husband made a statement about his project — the play "New Optimistic." It was previously seen on the stage of the Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre.
"It is always sad when a beloved play comes to the end of its journey. It is wonderful when it has a chance to continue its life in a new home. 'New Optimistic' will soon be on the stage of the Theater on Bronnaya, which I congratulate the fans of this play with. And those who have not seen it yet — I invite you. This is one of my favorite works. The same team, the same text, a new space. And Happy Culture Workers' Day to all involved! By the way, the play is partly about them, the workers," Bogomolov stated.
The director's statement immediately caught attention online. "Well, that's it, the final divorce of Konstantin Bogomolov (KUB) and Konstantin Khabensky (KUK) has taken place. With the division of property!" wrote the Telegram channel "Heroine of Tatler." This refers to the fact that Bogomolov began staging his play at the Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre at the very beginning of Khabensky's tenure as artistic director of this theater.
"At that time, the relationship between the two was cloudless, and the new artistic director of the Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre was interested in good plays by good directors on his stage. After the struggle for the Shchukin School, this play was the last that allowed Bogomolov to enter the Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre both casually and officially, and now 'New Optimistic' is moving to Bronnaya. So there are no longer even diplomatic relations between them. Happy Culture Workers' Day!" wrote "Heroine of Tatler."
However, the author of the ironic post was corrected in the comments, noting that not only 'New Optimistic' is being staged at the Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre, but also three other plays by Konstantin Yurievich. "However, all these plays are not included in the property mass between KUB and KUK; they were released while Oleg Pavlovich Tabakov was still around (or shortly after his departure). As is known, Tabakov loved Bogomolov," concluded the source.
