The quality of sperm may decline in men over 35.
Despite the widespread belief that a man can become a father at any age, sperm motility decreases with age, said obstetrician-gynecologist Mzia Leviashvili.
Leviashvili explained that, according to data from modern studies, men over 35 may experience a decline in semen quality. In particular, they may have lower sperm concentration, reduced motility, and an increase in abnormal forms.
The doctor clarified that these changes can be provoked by an unhealthy lifestyle: smoking, alcohol consumption, and stress. Additionally, excess weight and chronic diseases worsen sperm quality.
"The optimal time for having children from a biological perspective is before the age of 35, and this applies to both partners. At this age, the risks are minimal, and the body's resources are maximal. However, if the time has passed, there is no need to despair. The path to parenthood at an older age may be more challenging, but it is possible," added Leviashvili.
