Sweet snacks in the afternoon can harm the brain and increase the risk of developing dementia. This was stated by nurse Kiara DeVitt in an interview with Fox News.
DeVitt explained that sweet snacks provide a quick energy boost but cause sugar spikes that stress the brain. According to her, such fluctuations can exacerbate inflammatory processes, disrupt neuronal function, and increase the burden on the brain's blood vessels, which in the long term raises the risk of developing dementia.
To avoid this, DeVitt recommended choosing healthier snack options that contain protein, fiber, and healthy fats. She identified nuts, yogurt, or fruits as the most suitable choices. At the same time, she emphasized that sweets and desserts should not be excluded from the diet; they are perfectly safe if consumed after a main meal rather than instead of it.
