Man Unable to Lift Usual Weight at Gym Discovers Serious Illness

After experiencing twitching in his bicep, the British man was diagnosed with motor neuron disease.

British man Ryan Horsfall was unable to lift his usual weight with his left arm at the gym and found out he was seriously ill. The story of the 39-year-old plumber was published by the Mirror.

Horsfall first noticed difficulties lifting weights in early 2025, and in October, while working in the cold, he completely lost control of his left arm. He also experienced twitching in his bicep and leg. He suspected that these symptoms were caused by a pinched nerve, but by December, he was diagnosed with motor neuron disease. "At that time, I didn’t think much of it. We only realized the seriousness of the situation when I was discharged from the hospital and called my wife. Now I am experiencing all the classic symptoms of MND," the Briton admitted.

Motor neuron disease is a progressive neurological condition that affects the brain and spinal cord, leading to muscle weakness, wasting, and paralysis. It typically affects people aged 50 to 70, which is why, according to Horsfall, he was not diagnosed earlier despite some characteristic complaints. Tests now show that Ryan is affected in all four limbs.
