The Olympic champion explained why figure skating no longer defines his life and what new meanings he has found after his difficult trials.
Roman Kostomarov candidly shared that figure skating, which had been the center of his world for many years, is gradually taking a back seat. According to the athlete, after the amputation of his limbs, circumstances forced him to look at his usual way of life in a new light and learn to adapt to reality.
"It is clear that my passion for sports and figure skating is slowly but surely leaving my life. If before it took up all my free time and energized me, today circumstances are putting me in new conditions. I have to adapt," Kostomarov admitted.
The Olympic champion noted that he is now open to new forms of self-realization and is trying out activities he had never even considered before. One such unexpected direction has been singing. In Ilya Averbukh's ice show "Hallelujah of Love," he took to the ice not only as a figure skater but also as a performer, singing the song "There is Only a Moment."
At the same time, Kostomarov emphasizes that he views singing more as a hobby and does not plan to build a musical career. Nevertheless, working with an orchestra, studio rehearsals, and live sound have become an important and inspiring experience for him.
The athlete also does not hide his interest in television projects, especially those related to themes of overcoming and extreme experiences. According to him, it is important for him today to enjoy each day, communicate with people, and share personal experiences that, as he sees it, have become a support and source of motivation for many.
Recall that in early 2023, Roman Kostomarov underwent amputations of his feet and hands due to complications from pneumonia. He is now moving with the help of prosthetics and continues to actively return to public life.
