The outgoing year has been difficult for maestro Raimonds Pauls — he lost several close people and himself underwent surgery. The composer spoke about this on the air of a Latvian television program.
"Not only did my wife pass away, but also my sister, as well as the outstanding Latvian politician Janis Peters," said Raimonds Pauls on air.
The maestro was taken to the hospital by ambulance, where he underwent surgery.
"Andrei Erglis rolled up his sleeves and got into my insides," Pauls added humorously.
It was previously reported that in January, Latvian poet, public figure, and diplomat Janis Peters passed away at the age of 85.
In February, the outstanding Latvian textile artist Edite Pauls-Vigner passed away (1939–2025). Her creative journey began in the 1960s and continued until her last days. Her talent was highly appreciated both in Latvia and beyond — her works were exhibited at numerous exhibitions, impressing with their scale, brightness, innovative approach, and unusual techniques, winning the love of viewers.
