The film "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" became a true classic of the New Year. Jim Carrey played the lead role. At that time, digital technology was not as advanced, and the actor had to undergo a complex, hours-long makeup process and wear an uncomfortable costume, which caused him to have panic attacks.
Recently, Carrey recalled how difficult it was for him:
"The itchy costume was made of yak hair, which drove me crazy all day. I had fingers that were 10 inches long, so I couldn’t scratch myself, touch my face, or do anything else. I had teeth that I had to find a way to talk with, and I had contact lenses that covered the entire eyeball, and I could only see a tiny tunnel in front of me."
The actor convinced himself that he was doing it for the children. But he still wanted to leave the shoot, even despite the $20 million fee.
The film crew took care of the actor, and after the first panic attack, they hired a commander from the U.S. Navy SEALs for him. He taught Carrey the endurance techniques that special forces learn in preparation for torture.
