Those wishing to decorate their home for the New Year with a natural Christmas tree are advised to ensure its freshness before purchasing.
Before purchasing a live Christmas tree, one should ensure that it is fresh and mold-free. The tree should be smelled. According to an expert, if it has been stored not in a dry, cool warehouse but, for example, outside, it may have an unpleasant odor. Such a tree should not be purchased.
Before checking for freshness, it is recommended to ask the seller to unpack the tree and remove the netting. Then the tree should be shaken and tapped against the ground. It may shed a few needles — this is not a cause for concern. The quality of the branches should also be checked: running a hand over them should not leave any needles behind. The branches should bend well, not break, and smell fresh.
It is also important to determine the size of the tree in advance and remember that firs shed needles, unlike pines and spruces.
