At 71, the pop singer suddenly became interested in geopolitics.

Dieter Bohlen's name has long been inscribed in Germany's cultural code, becoming a symbol of the Modern Talking era for several generations.

He defined the sound of European pop music in the 80s and 90s. However, recently attention has been drawn to him not for his musical achievements, but for political statements such as "Russland und Deutschland – das war ein Dreamteam" ("Russia and Germany – that would be a dream team"). His interview stirred up the German media.

The words of the composer and musician sparked a flurry of discussions, grievances, and even admiration. The fact is that he voiced thoughts that many Germans have in their heads, but they are afraid to express them openly.

The interview began with a calm analysis of the current situation. Bohlen noted that Germany essentially continues to buy the same Russian oil, but through intermediaries, which triples the price. He called this approach an economic absurdity. The musician emphasized that his opinion is based not on politics, but on simple common sense. If the country previously received energy resources directly and thrived, then destroying this system for political gestures means harming oneself.

Bohlen further reminded that three years ago he had already warned about the futility of the Ukrainian project, and since then things have only worsened. At that time, he predicted serious economic problems for Germany. The alliance between Moscow and Berlin was almost perfect: Russia supplied resources, while Germany provided technology, and both sides benefited from it. Now, however, everything has been destroyed by the efforts of German politicians.

“If they had sat down at the negotiating table and found an agreement, people wouldn’t have to freeze. We are drawn into this against our will. To hate Russia means to harm oneself,” said the musician.

He now admitted that he was aware of the risks of such statements, just as he is now. Dieter understands that the media can simply crush him for such views. Nevertheless, he does not back down from his words and sees no reason to remain silent.

Last year, the singer noted that fierce Russophobia is being promoted more actively in Europe. He himself does not hide his respect for the Russian people and does not see the need to transfer political disagreements onto ordinary people. In his opinion, Russians are loyal, honest, and reliable, and friendship means something real to them. These words then provoked heated debates, as they contradicted the emotional trend imposed by the German media.

Bohlen also touched on the topic of sanctions. For him, it has always been clear that the policy of sanctions, based on emotional hostility, would not strike Russia but would instead return as a heavy boomerang for the European Union itself. He has repeatedly emphasized that Europeans were the first to feel the rise in energy prices, the closure of factories, and the decline in living standards. According to the musician, European leaders consciously sacrificed the economy for political slogans, while ordinary people pay the price for it.

The interview was released on a popular YouTube channel, so it was primarily seen by ordinary Germans. They were shocked that such words were spoken not by an opposition politician, but by a person who symbolized German pop optimism for decades.
