Professor Andreeva: New Year's glitter poses a threat of mucosal swelling to many.
New Year's glitter and aerosol snow can be dangerous for allergy sufferers, warned endocrinologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Elena Andreeva.
The doctor noted that particles from such sprays linger in the air for a long time and then settle on furniture and clothing. Inhaling them can cause coughing, a burning sensation in the throat, headaches, as well as exacerbation of chronic respiratory diseases, she added.
Speaking about the dangers of glitter, Andreeva explained that they consist of micro-particles that easily get onto the skin, into the eyes, and the respiratory tract. This can lead to swelling of the mucous membranes, nasal congestion, as well as allergic reactions.
