Therapist: Nordic walking is healthier than 10,000 steps a day.
Nordic walking with two poles for support is the most beneficial for health, said therapist Giuseppe Aragona. He discussed the advantages of this type of walking with the Huffington Post.
This physical activity engages more muscles — up to 90 percent compared to 50 percent with regular walking, he reminded. "It is healthier than just taking 10,000 steps a day," the doctor clarified.
The specialist added that Nordic walking can increase energy expenditure by about 20 percent compared to regular walking at the same speed. "For most adults, the recommended norm is about 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity per week, and Nordic walking is an excellent way to achieve this goal. Thanks to Nordic walking, every step can become even more beneficial for the cardiovascular system," noted Aragona.
The therapist recommended Nordic walking for those with joint problems, as well as for those who want to improve posture, gait, or coordination. "This type of walking can also be an ideal solution for people recovering from injuries, for those who want to engage in training without excessive effort, or for those looking for outdoor activities that simultaneously improve fitness and strength," concluded Aragona.
