In the near future, the songs and performers competing in Supernova for the right to represent Latvia at next year's Eurovision Song Contest will be announced. Supernova veteran, singer Markus Riva, admitted that he is not participating this year, reports tv3.lv.
"I want to be honest with you right away — this year I did not apply to participate in Supernova. That is... this year I simply decided not to participate," Markus Riva addressed his fans on social media.
"Supernova has always been a great adventure for me, where I felt your support every year, read your messages, comments, felt your anticipation... And it really meant a lot to me. Without your faith and energy, everything would have been completely different.
But this year I felt that I needed a break. The atmosphere around Eurovision has become quite tense lately — a lot of different scandals, politics. I realized that I needed to step back a bit to maintain my peace and work on personal things that are important to me right now," the artist explained his decision to take a pause from participating in Eurovision.
At the same time, he assured: "This is not a departure, not a period — rather, a comma. A little rest, a little time to get myself in order and move forward with new strength."
"Thank you for being with me all these years. You are my great strength and inspiration. We will definitely meet again," Markus Riva added.
Last year, Markus Riva participated in the national selection for Eurovision with the song Bigger Than This, and it was already the tenth time the singer took part in the competition.
