During international mine search exercises in the Baltic Sea, Lithuanian military destroyed a 300-kilogram mine, reported the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
Lieutenant Commander Haroldas Uznis, commander of the mine countermeasure vessel M53 Skalvis, reported that a sea bottom mine was destroyed.
The mine countermeasure vessel M53 Skalvis of the Lithuanian Navy, along with soldiers from the Fusilier Battalion of General Kazimieras Nestoras Sapiega and the rotational forces of the Portuguese Marine Corps stationed in Lithuania, participated in the "Baltic Operations" (BALTOPS 2026) exercises from June 4 to 19.
"The culmination of each mine search operation is the neutralization of the explosive device. Mine countermeasure vessels have two ways to destroy a dangerous underwater object — with the help of diver-sappers or an underwater robot," he said.
The military did not disclose how the current mine was destroyed, likely for security reasons.
According to the editorial board of bb.lv, it would be good to know how our military distinguished themselves during the exercises. We look forward to messages from the Ministry of Defense of Latvia.
