Ancient Greek wisdom states: tough times create strong people. Scientists from the Institute of Cytology and Genetics have been able to confirm this scientifically.
Genetic Research
The experiment involved people from three age groups — those born in 1982–1985, 1992–1995, and 2002–2005. They were surveyed and underwent genetic testing to identify features of stress resilience and anxiety.
Crisis Generation
People born in the early 90s often exhibited the genes DRD4 and COMT. The former is associated with novelty-seeking and stress resilience, while the latter reduces the risk of anxiety disorders. These genes were found less frequently in individuals from other generations.
Contradictory Result
In addition, 90s children were found to have a variant of the gene ESR1, which increases anxiety but simultaneously enhances fertility. Scientists suggest that this is an evolutionary mechanism that allows people to reproduce even in conditions of crisis and constant stress.
