In a joint statement signed by the couple alongside figures such as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and actor Stephen Fry, there is a call for a ban on the creation of 'superintelligence' until its safety and controllability are guaranteed. 'We urge a ban on the development of superintelligence until a broad scientific consensus regarding its safety is reached,' the document states.
Prince Harry, in a separate comment, emphasized that the future of artificial intelligence (AI) should serve humanity, not replace it, as the technology poses risks 'from the economic devaluation of people to the potential extinction of humanity.' He added that 'the true measure of progress is not the speed of movement but the wisdom of governance,' warning that 'there will be no second chance.'
The initiative marks a new phase in the couple's efforts to protect children from cyberbullying and other dangers online, for which they recently received a humanitarian award at the Project Healthy Minds gala. Previously, Harry pointed to the dangers of the explosive development of unregulated AI, referencing a study where chatbots generated harmful content for children every five minutes.
