What Really «Kills» Your Phone Battery: Not What You Think

Increased temperature and poor-quality adapters pose a significant threat to battery lifespan.

Many users still believe that leaving their phone charging overnight is a bad idea. It is thought that the battery quickly loses capacity and starts to 'degrade' prematurely because of this. However, as experts from CNET note, you shouldn't worry about it.

Modern smartphones, including the iPhone, have smart charging management that automatically limits power supply when full charge is reached, preventing so-called 'overcharging'. That is, when the smartphone is charged to 100%, it either stops charging or switches to a so-called 'trickle charge' mode.

What Actually Harms Your Smartphone Battery

Experts explain that being constantly plugged into the socket does not harm the battery by itself, although it can accelerate wear if the phone overheats. The main danger is not in the charging itself, but in the increased temperature, especially if you are playing games or watching videos while charging.

Additionally, the lifespan of the battery is affected by the use of cheap non-original adapters, as well as the habit of discharging the battery 'to zero'. It is advisable to keep the battery charge level between 20% and 80% and enable 'smart charging' features available on most modern devices.

Thus, frequently charging your smartphone or leaving it on charge overnight is not harmful—provided that you use a quality charger and avoid overheating.
