What happened was "something more real than reality itself"

Doctor of Physics and Theoretical Sciences and neurobiologist Alex Gomez-Marin experienced internal bleeding and was briefly without signs of life, but in the "afterlife" saw something amazing. Paranormal phenomena are full of stories that attract the attention of millions, such as accounts of people who have "returned from the dead." This is exactly what happened to the neurosurgeon who "died" for seven seconds and shared his experiences.

According to a study by the University of Virginia (2011), about 10–20% of people who have faced life-threatening situations experience near-death experiences (NDEs). These cases profoundly change their worldview. NDEs encompass a wide range of out-of-body experiences and sensations that cannot be explained scientifically. However, research on this topic throughout history has encountered hundreds and thousands of testimonies where people, unfamiliar with each other, describe similar impressions.

This is what happened to physicist and neurobiologist Alex Gomez-Marin when he spent several days in the hospital due to internal bleeding. In a television program, he recounted that due to blood loss, he felt himself gradually weakening, but only realized what had happened after he regained consciousness.

"I spent seven seconds on the other side," the scientist shared. "I was in a well with a golden light above, and around me were three spiritual guides offering to help me get out. At that moment, I decided to return, thought about my little daughters, and asked to come back."

Gomez-Marin is convinced that it was not a dream or a hallucination, but "something more real than reality itself." He felt no fear, only a "deep peace":

"There was no need to think — I just knew. I knew everything was okay." His words echo other accounts of NDEs, emphasizing that such experiences become a turning point: "It divided my life into 'before' and 'after,' both personally and professionally."

Since then, Gomez-Marin has sought a balance between science and spirituality. "I am not religious, but the sacred exists," he says. "For a long time, materialism has convinced us that there is only matter. But love, pain, or consciousness are also real, even if they cannot be measured."

"We are very afraid, but those who have been on the brink know: it is a beautiful experience. And for now, it is worth remembering that there is life even before death," he concluded.
