Lido Rico is one of the outstanding representatives of contemporary Spanish art. At his personal exhibition "Revelation," which opened at the "Riga Stock Exchange" museum and will run until August 23, the author offers a special journey and a new perspective — on the past through the lens of the present. A walk through various exhibition halls, which may initially seem like a temporal anomaly, will turn into an exciting and unexpected adventure, full of discoveries that contemporary art and the museum environment provide.
Rico began studying visual arts at the Polytechnic University of San Carlos in Valencia and graduated in 1991 from the Higher School of Fine Arts in Paris. In 1989, he received the first youth award for visual arts in Murcia, and in 1990, he was awarded a scholarship for visual arts in the autonomous community of Murcia and the Youth Art Award from the Youth Institute of Madrid.
In 1992, he was selected as the sculptor to create a composition in front of the Murcia pavilion at the World Expo in Seville.
In 2001, the artist received an honorary prize at the VI Drawing Exhibition held in the city of Győr, Hungary. In 2005, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs appointed him as the country's representative at the XXIII Exhibition in Alexandria (Egypt), where Rico received the Grand Prix.
Since the beginning of his professional career, Rico has participated in more than a hundred exhibitions around the world. His works are located, among others, in the Queen Sofia Arts Center, various institutions such as the collection of the Bank of Spain in Madrid, and other public and private collections.
Lido Rico is the creator of his own plastic style, using his own body as a working tool. Initially, the artist and sculptor uses wax as the main material, into which he incorporates various components, proportioning three-dimensional collages with a strong conceptual load. Then the author literally immerses his body in various materials to achieve the shape of objects, which he subsequently embodies in polyester resin. Subtlety, irony, and elegance are the main components of his creativity.
