The Museum of the Baptism of Jesus Christ Will Open in Jordan

In 2030, a museum dedicated to the baptism of Jesus Christ in Bethany Beyond the Jordan will appear on the eastern bank of the Jordan River. The opening will coincide with the two-thousandth anniversary of the beginning of Christ's public ministry.

The museum will be located near a UNESCO World Heritage archaeological site, recognized as one of two locations referred to as the site of Jesus' baptism (the second is located in Israel).

The concept of the museum was developed by the British architectural firm Níall McLaughlin Architects, which won a two-stage international competition. The museum will consist of several spaces arranged as a symbolic journey from east to west: visitors will descend to the ground, then pass through a ravine filled with water reminiscent of the Jordan River, and emerge into the light in a fertile paradise garden. The eastern and western exits will be connected by a public square.
