Filming of the feature film "Strokes of Madness" has started in the Latvian capital. The international project will tell the story of a young musician losing touch with reality, set in a futuristic city inspired by Riga.

Riga has become one of the main filming locations for the new Belgian-Dutch film "Strokes of Madness." Work on the film has already begun, and filming in the Latvian capital will continue until the end of June.

The project is being implemented by the Belgian studio Menuetto Film in collaboration with partners from Belgium and the Netherlands. The organization of the filming process in Latvia is provided by the film studio Mistrus Media.

The creators of the film are Lander Haverals and Dominik van Malder. According to their concept, the story takes place in a futuristic city of the future, the visual image of which is inspired by Riga.

The main character of the film is a young violinist named Wolf. As events unfold, he increasingly loses touch with reality, and his family and friends must find ways to help him cope with his internal crisis.

The film is described as a psychological drama that touches on themes of love, art, mental disorders, and the pursuit of perfection. For the director, this story has personal significance: it is based on experiences related to the loss of a younger brother.

The lead role will be played by young Belgian actor Thibo Doms. The film also features Dara Ogunbiyi, Janne Desmet, and Wim Villard.

Latvian specialists are also involved in the creation of the film. The visual design is being worked on by artist Karlis Utinans together with Belgian colleague Hendrik van Kets, and the music is being composed by Tom Auniņš.

For the Latvian film industry, participation in international projects means not only additional employment for local specialists but also the opportunity to showcase Riga to foreign audiences in a new visual image.

The filming crew includes dozens of professionals from Latvia — from producers and production organizers to artists, prop masters, and technical specialists. The producers of the project in Latvia are Darta Vīgriēze, Inese Boka-Grube, and Gints Grube from the studio Mistrus Media.

After the completion of the Riga filming stage, work on the film will continue as part of an international production that brings together filmmakers from several European countries.
