Colin Firth has joined the cast of the Apple TV+ series based on Philip Kerr's popular "Berlin Noir" book series. The Oscar winner will join previously confirmed lead Jack Loudon ("Slow Horses").

The project, currently untitled and filming in Berlin, will be an adaptation of the book "Metropolis," the last in the series about detective Bernie Gunther, detailing the beginning of his investigative career. The screenplay was written by Oscar winner Peter Straughan ("Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy"), and the director will be Tom Shankland ("The House of Guinness"). The production is being handled by Bad Wolf and Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman's PlayTone.

The series will transport viewers to Berlin in 1928. Young police officer Bernie Gunther (Jack Loudon), freshly transferred to the elite homicide division, has received his first case. His target is a serial killer who selects victims from the dregs of society. In this city, balancing between unprecedented freedom and overwhelming turbulence, where the Nazis are still a distant threat, Bernie must fight for the truth at any cost.

Colin Firth will play Paul Loeser, a brilliant yet unpleasant and reclusive detective from the same division. Pedantic, unsociable, and highly educated, Loeser is the complete opposite of Gunther. As his mentor and partner, he will become Bernie’s only hope of solving the case.

Colin Firth has several premieres ahead: on March 4, 2026, Guy Ritchie's series "Young Sherlock" will debut on Prime Video, and the actor will also appear in Steven Spielberg's film "Day of Disclosure" and in the sequel "Kingsman: The Blue Bloods."
