The national airline of Latvia airBaltic may require state funding this summer, said Minister of Transport Rihards Kozlovskis ("New Unity").

Commenting on the possibility of state support for the airline this summer, Kozlovskis noted that the business plan of airBaltic is currently being evaluated.

"We expect its approval by the company's board, after which we will make a decision. It is possible that such funding will indeed be required," said the minister.

The minister emphasized that his goal is to do everything possible to ensure the continued operation of airBaltic.

"In this industry, which is sensitive to some extent, clarity must come as soon as possible, as creditors and partners are closely monitoring the situation. Decisions must be responsible. I expect that the Prime Minister will also closely oversee this process," Kozlovskis stated.

It is worth noting that on April 16 of this year, the Saeima supported the provision of a state loan to the airline in the amount of 30 million euros. The repayment term for the principal and interest is set for August 31, 2026. The loan was issued without collateral.

It was also reported that in the first quarter of 2026, the losses of the airBaltic group amounted to 70.064 million euros, which is 2.4 times more than in the same period of 2025.
