The premiere of the series, which people have already dubbed the next "Stranger Things," will take place on the streaming platform Apple TV+ at the end of April. This is about the ten-episode project "Widows' Cove," which combines elements of comedy and horror and starts on April 29 of this year.
The new series was created by writer Katie Dippold, who also served as the executive producer of the material. The directing team was led by Emmy Award winner Hiro Murai, who directed five episodes of the series. Ti West, Sam Donovan, and Andrew DeYoung worked on the remaining episodes. The lead role in the project was played by Welsh actor Matthew Rhys – an Emmy winner known to audiences from the Netflix series "The Beast Inside."
In "Widows' Cove," Rhys embodies the character of Mayor Tom Loftis – a skeptical mayor of a small island town, whose residents are convinced that their home is cursed. The island, with unstable mobile connectivity and a complete lack of Wi-Fi, lives by its own rules, and the townspeople consider the mayor too soft and cowardly. Despite this, Tom Loftis tries to save the community from decline and secure a better future for his son by transforming the remote town into a tourist destination. And it seems that this plan even starts to work.
However, it quickly becomes clear that beneath the outward calm lies something much darker. The events of the series unfold as a mix of dark humor and true horror, as the residents are forced to confront terrifying forces that have long been hidden from view.
Alongside Matthew Rhys, the series features Kate O'Flynn, Stephen Ruth, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll, and Dale Dickey, forming a strong and recognizable ensemble cast. Principal photography took place in 2025 in New England, particularly in the towns of Worcester, Rockport, Essex, and Gloucester in Massachusetts.
The first three episodes of "Widows' Cove" will premiere on Apple TV+ on April 29, after which the series will be released weekly on Wednesdays. The final, tenth episode will be available to viewers on June 17. It seems that "Widows' Cove" has every chance of becoming one of the most talked-about series this spring.
