A Missing Dog Found in the U.S. 3,200 km from Home

A dog that went missing last summer in California was found nine months later in Michigan, over 3,200 kilometers from her home. Her story resembles 'a tale worthy of Hollywood,' reports The Guardian, citing news channel Fox 2 Detroit.

A three-year-old female terrier named Mishka ran away from her owner in San Diego in July 2023. In late March 2024, a resident of a Detroit suburb contacted the police, reporting a stray dog that had appeared in her area. The police took Mishka off the street and handed her over to animal welfare advocates from the Grosse Pointe Society. Shelter specialists discovered a microchip with the owner's information, who immediately flew to Michigan to retrieve her, the publication reports.

How the small terrier managed to cover such a distance remains a mystery. There is a suggestion that the dog may have been stolen, although her owners do not understand why, as she does not belong to a rare or expensive breed.

According to the veterinarian who examined Mishka, the dog was clean and well-groomed. It is evident that she was well cared for all this time. The owners noted that Mishka recognized them immediately and greeted them joyfully. Overall, she is calm, has not lost her habits, and even acquired new ones. For example, during her absence, the dog learned to obey the command 'Sit.'
