Dogs Unsuitable for Group Classes

With hyperactive dogs that often get distracted by other animals and people and rarely listen to commands, it is better to train individually at the training ground rather than in a group, as such a dog can distract others, and the classes will be ineffective for it, noted dog trainer Vladimir Golubev.

An expert explained which pets are not suitable for group classes at the training ground.

Skittish Dogs

“If you have a shy and fearful dog, you must first address this issue before bringing it to group classes,” the specialist explains.

Some pets are afraid of their peers due to negative past experiences, insufficient socialization, or health problems. In such cases, being on the training ground among other dogs, the pet will be distracted or even show aggression towards attempts by other “students” to approach it. In such conditions, learning new commands becomes impossible, and the dog will not be able to absorb new information.

Hyperactive Dogs

Hyperactive dogs at the training ground may show excessive interest in other animals. They may find it difficult to stay in one place due to numerous distractions. Such pets are also better suited for individual lessons to gradually get used to the need to work with their owner. This will help the dog focus on learning.

Dogs Needing Behavior Correction

“For example, if you want to stop your dog from barking at noises outside the door, it is important to do this in a familiar environment. Or, if you plan to train your dog to guard your cottage, individual lessons are also necessary,” the dog trainer comments.

He adds that before heading to the training ground with a pet, it is essential to consult a specialist about the appropriateness of group classes.

“By listening to the trainer’s opinion, you will achieve your goals faster. However, it is important to understand that group classes at the training ground are the most effective and reliable way to socialize an urban dog. It is in such classes that your pet acquires all the necessary skills: attentive obedience, the ability to be in a noisy and changing environment, as well as establishing contact with other dogs and strangers,” the speaker concludes.
