Why Dogs Should Not Be Given Easter Cakes

Easter cakes can pose a serious threat to dogs' health, warns the British Kennel Club.

The organization emphasized that chocolate and raisins, used to decorate Easter baked goods, can be dangerous for pets. Owners often remember the ban on chocolate, but raisins typically go unnoticed.

“With an abundance of food during Easter, owners need to keep a close eye on their pets,” notes dog health expert Bill Lambert from the British Kennel Club.

He reminded that chocolate and raisins are toxic to dogs. Their consumption can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and in rare cases, even lead to the death of the animal.

According to the Daily Mail, there has been a 12% increase in cases of dog poisoning from raisins over the past year. This product contains tartaric acid, which can cause serious kidney damage in dogs, and the degree of reaction depends on the amount consumed.

The Kennel Club recommends keeping all chocolate and raisin products in places inaccessible to dogs, such as closed cabinets.

Additionally, the publication reminds that in spring, some flowers, such as daffodils and tulips, can also be dangerous for dogs. “These spring flowers can be toxic to dogs, so be cautious during walks,” the publication warns.
