What are the differences between a hare and a rabbit?

First of all, the differences lie in size and behavior.

All breeds of domestic rabbits descended from a wild European ancestor. The European brown hare weighs between 3 and 5.5 kg, the brown hare weighs between 4 and 7 kg, while the wild rabbit has a mass of 1.6 to 2.5 kg (although domestic individuals can reach 10 kg). Rabbits have shorter legs and ears than hares.

Differences are also noticeable in their behavior: rabbits dig burrows and mainly inhabit their surroundings, whereas hares do not have permanent shelters and move across vast territories. Rabbit kits are born hairless and blind, while leverets are born with sight, fur, and are quite independent. Overall, the family Leporidae includes more than ten genera and numerous species, and the distinction between hares and rabbits is conditional.
