How to Win a Cat's Trust?

It is believed that to establish a good relationship with a cat, one needs to blink slowly...

British scientists have proposed an effective way to establish contact with cats. They noticed that our fluffy friends sometimes “slowly close their eyelids several times in a row, and sometimes even completely shut their eyes.”

Research has shown that if a person repeats these movements, the cat is likely to respond in a similar way and come closer. Perhaps this “slow blinking” serves as a strategy to avoid direct eye contact, which cats perceive as a threat.

“What a great idea! A cat really has a rich facial expression — it can squint in 34 different ways, I studied this,” says Yuri Kuklachev, head of the Cat Theatre. “A cat closes its eyes when it feels comfortable and pleasant. And if you pet it, it rolls its eyes back like a woman in ecstasy. To win a cat's affection, first of all, you need friendly intonations in your voice. If you radiate ‘waves of warmth,’ the cat will feel it immediately. Conversely, it will react negatively to insincerity.”
