Bear, Lion, Wolf: Who is the Most Effective Predator on Earth?

Recent research conducted at Deakin University in Australia shed light on an interesting question: solitary predators, such as tigers and brown bears, kill more animals compared to social predators, such as wolves and lions.

However, it is important to consider that the size of the prey also plays a significant role in this process. A solitary predator may catch a large deer, which provides it with calories much better than many small animals. Social predators, although they hunt less frequently, have the opportunity to share larger prey among themselves, which can be beneficial for the entire group.

The study covered about 200 scientific works and focused on mammals weighing 15 kilograms and more, allowing for extensive data on various hunting strategies.

Interestingly, many predators are also scavengers, which significantly complicates the assessment of their impact on ecosystems. As a result, Homo sapiens remains the top predator on Earth, using its unique abilities and technologies for hunting and survival.
