Veterinarians Discuss the Dangers of Avocado and Grapes for Pets

Pets often pick up food that has fallen on the floor. Some of these can pose a danger to the health of both cats and dogs.

Avocado

Avocado contains a toxic substance called persin, which can cause heart attacks in cats and dogs.

Bones

Bones can harm a pet's digestive system. Additionally, if a bone is too large, it may lead to choking when the pet tries to swallow it.

Coffee and Chocolate

These products pose a serious threat to animal health. Cocoa, coffee beans, and some nuts contain methylxanthine, which can cause vomiting, diarrhea, choking, hyperactivity, heart rhythm disturbances, tremors, and seizures. In severe cases, this substance can lead to the death of the pet.

Grapes and Raisins

These products contain mycotoxins that can damage the liver and kidneys of animals. For example, a dog may experience increased blood pressure after consuming even a small handful.

Onion and Garlic

These products are extremely dangerous for cats: consuming them in large quantities can cause anemia in these animals.

Milk

Despite common belief, milk is not a beneficial product for cats. Adult cats and dogs lack the enzyme necessary to break down lactose, which can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, and other gastrointestinal disturbances.
