Despite their capriciousness, it is quite possible to win the affection of cats. Studies show that they particularly enjoy being petted behind the ears, under the chin, on the forehead, and cheeks.
To ensure your pet feels completely relaxed, follow these simple recommendations:
before you start petting, bring your hand close to the cat — give it the opportunity to sniff you and decide if it wants some affection right now;
don’t start petting if the cat is busy with something, like eating or playing, especially if it is about to use the litter box;
if your pet has just settled into a cozy corner, it probably wants to rest peacefully, so it’s better to postpone the petting;
pay attention to signals from your furry friend: if the cat starts rubbing against you or nearby objects — that’s a sign it’s time to give it affection through petting;
pet the cat slowly and gently, avoiding sudden movements, and always in the direction of the fur growth;
give your pet the chance to control the situation — this way it will feel safe and comfortable;
watch for changes in your cat’s body language: if it gets tired of being petted, it will definitely let you know, for example, by lightly biting or pushing you away with its paws.
