According to the Daily Mail, chronic wasting disease (CWD), nicknamed the 'zombie virus', is actively spreading among deer in the northern US.
This infection causes changes in the brains of animals, which manifest as excessive salivation, lethargy, and unsteady gait. Due to these obvious symptoms, hunters refer to such deer as zombies.
Scientists do not rule out the possibility that the virus could eventually transfer to humans. Currently, there are no vaccines or other treatments for CWD.
