Why Cats Knead Their Owners' Hands

Veterinary practitioner Edward Wolf explained the reasons behind such behavior in household pets.

“This phenomenon is commonly referred to as ‘kneading.’ This behavior is characteristic of all cats and typically persists from an early age. When kittens suckle from their mother, they knead her mammary glands with their paws, which helps to stimulate milk flow,” explained the veterinarian.

In adulthood, cats continue to knead their owners. “This behavior in cats is associated with feelings of comfort, love, and warmth, as well as positive emotions and memories.

It is possible that the cats themselves derive pleasure from this process, especially when kneading blankets or soft throws,” he added.
