Scientists claim to have found a way to extend dogs' lives...

This is indeed true.

The veterinary department of the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) has approved clinical trials for a new injectable drug that is expected to increase the lifespan of dogs.

During the trials, injections will be administered to 1,000 animals every 3-6 months. The drug works by suppressing IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor, which accelerates aging processes).

As noted by biologist and professor at George Mason University (USA) Ancha BARANOVA, the average lifespan of large breed dogs is significantly lower than that of small breeds. This is associated with elevated levels of insulin-like growth factor in the bodies of larger animals, leading to their earlier aging.
