When looking at the name of pet food, many may associate it with appetizing dishes. “Tender duck pâté in sauce,” “salmon with young peas,” “stewed rabbit in carrot jelly” — such names certainly pique interest!
Despite the fact that the names on the packaging partially reflect the composition, it is hard to believe that pet food can actually be tasty. Dry pellets and wet pieces with an unclear texture do not inspire confidence. It is interesting to know if our pets like such food?
If you ask your cat or dog if they are satisfied with their food, they will certainly respond affirmatively! As soon as you take out the package, both the dog and the cat will immediately perk up, their eyes shining with anticipation. It’s all about the aroma, which creates part of the taste perception even before the food enters their mouths.
Dogs are capable of distinguishing savory, sweet, and bitter tastes. Although they have fewer taste buds than humans, this is compensated by an enormous number of olfactory receptors, which exceed ours by more than 20 times.
Thus, it is quite possible that your pet refuses certain food because it does not suit their taste. At the same time, if an animal truly enjoys a treat, it may diligently lick its bowl clean.
