PhD in Biological Sciences Maria Yatsyshina listed foods that can cause serious poisoning in cats, up to fatal outcomes.
“Foods that are toxic to cats and can cause severe poisoning, including fatal outcomes, include chocolate, onions, garlic, grapes, and raisins. How can a cat get onions and garlic? From the food we prepare for ourselves,” explained the specialist.
The expert added that in addition to foods toxic to cats, there are also those that pose a danger. Among them, she noted liver. “Liver contains a large amount of vitamins A and D. When feeding a cat liver, it is essential to strictly regulate its quantity. An excess of this product can lead to hypervitaminosis of vitamins A and D, which is extremely dangerous,” commented Maria Yatsyshina.
Among the dangerous foods, she also mentioned raw yeast dough. “It expands in volume and can cause a blockage in the gastrointestinal tract,” warned the biologist. Additionally, raw meat and fish also pose a danger to cats. “These products can contain various pathogenic bacteria, such as salmonella and E. coli,” added the speaker.
