Can a parrot constantly scream from loneliness?

Explained by veterinarian Anna STATSKO.

Short-term screams are normal behavior for parrots. The loudest among them are cockatiels and budgerigars. Their sounds are not always pleasant to hear, but that is how they communicate. Parrots cannot tolerate loneliness and try to attract their owner's attention.

Therefore, it is recommended to keep several birds at once — they will be happier together.

Alternatively, you can leave a quietly playing radio for the parrot. Sometimes it is helpful to let the bird fly around the apartment a bit. However, if all conditions for comfortable living are met and the parrot still continues to scream loudly, it is advisable to consult a veterinarian. Episodes of hyperactivity may indicate the presence of a disease, such as gout.
