Explained by biologist Kristina PANASYUK.
- For a mosquito, making a sound is indeed disadvantageous, but it does so anyway, as it cannot do otherwise. The buzzing does not originate in the insect's throat but comes from its wings. The sound is produced during the wing beats — a mosquito flaps its wings at a high frequency.
This means we have a chance to catch it.
BY THE WAY
A mosquito belongs to the order Diptera. Its wings beat about 1000 times per second.
