What to Plant After Radishes for a Second Harvest

Radishes are one of the first crops in the garden, and their harvest also occurs among the first.

To avoid bare spots in the beds, you can plant other crops in that place.

It is important to follow several rules to avoid depleting the soil and to achieve a good harvest.

1. Since radishes belong to the Cruciferae family, it is not advisable to plant related crops in the same spot where they grew.

These include:

turnip,
radish,
cabbage,
spinach,
swede, and others.

2. It is also not recommended to plant carrots. Although they belong to a different family, these vegetables are susceptible to the same diseases and require similar nutrients.

3. Good “successors” to radishes are tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants.

To ensure you can harvest the nightshades planted after radishes, choose early-maturing varieties.

4. If you have enough space in your garden and have already planted the mentioned crops, you can sow the freed area with green manures that will enrich the soil: clover, lupine, phacelia, sweet clover, and other herbs.
